Meet Betty Roberts, Bindery Associate at Clovernook Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired. Betty puts together braille books in order from beginning to end, in numerical order for them to be bound with hardcovers. Betty first started working at Clovernook Center in 1971 and truly enjoys her work. “I like the satisfaction of knowing when a product has been finished,” said Betty.
During her childhood, Betty had partial sight in one of her eyes and learned how to read braille. She was diagnosed with Glaucoma later in life, which caused optic nerve damage in both of her eyes leading to blindness. After losing her sight, Betty used a guide dog to assist her in navigating from place to place. Currently, she uses a white cane to travel freely and safely in her daily life.
In Betty’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her son and her grandchildren, listening to audio books, cooking, listening to Gospel music, collecting keychains and magnets, gambling, going out to eat, traveling and singing in her church choir. She is passionate member of her bowling league and has won several trophies.
“I enjoy my job and working around positive, friendly people. It’s a peaceful atmosphere at Clovernook Center,” said Betty.
Clovernook Center is grateful for Betty’s outstanding work ethic and her dedication in living an independent, productive life!
